James Morrow

Phuket-based diver

Brought in a Seiko dive watch that had been sitting after a few seasons of hard use in the Similan Islands. They found corrosion on the case-back I hadn't noticed, explained it in writing before doing anything, then fixed it properly. The pressure test came back at the watch's full 200m rating. That was the part that mattered to me. Straightforward people.

I've had two watches serviced here now — a 1970s Rolex Submariner my father left me, and a newer dive watch I use regularly. The vintage piece got a proper restoration with a folder of everything they did. They sourced an original-style bezel insert, showed me what it would cost before ordering, and the whole thing felt considered rather than rushed. The service on the newer watch was simpler but equally well documented. Worth the trip to Patong.

I was anchored in Ao Chalong for a week and my Citizen dive watch was due a service. They were upfront that the turnaround would be tight for my schedule, but they managed it and the watch was ready before I departed. The service ticket was detailed. I'd have preferred a slightly longer conversation about the movement work they found necessary, but they did contact me before proceeding — I just wasn't in a position to ask many questions by phone. No issues with the watch since.

Had a salt-air restoration done on a Doxa that had been living on my boat for three years without any servicing. The corrosion on the lugs was significant. They were honest that some of the pitting was beyond polishing and walked me through what would be replaced and why. The watch looks considerably better than I expected, and more importantly it works correctly again. The written report was useful to have.

Phuket, marine instructor

As a dive instructor, I have my watch pressure tested every year without fail. Suriya Time are the only workshop I've found in Phuket that test to the actual rated depth rather than a lower figure. The service ticket records the depth tested, which is what I need for my own records. Quick service on each visit, and they've never tried to sell me work I don't need.

I contacted them by email from my hotel with a question about whether my dive watch needed servicing before a week of diving. They responded the same day with a sensible assessment based on what I described, and arranged a quick inspection the following morning. They found the crown gasket was beginning to show wear and replaced it on the spot. The charge was reasonable. Communication was good throughout — they didn't make me feel like I was being sold something I didn't need.

Three Appointments in Detail

The Challenge

A 1968 Blancpain Fifty Fathoms arrived at the workshop with a case-back that had corroded significantly and a bezel insert that had faded beyond identification. The owner, a long-term Phuket resident, had worn it casually for years without servicing. The movement had not been opened in an unknown length of time.

Our Approach

We began with a full assessment and written condition report. After consulting with the owner on acceptable replacements, we sourced a period-appropriate bezel insert from a specialist parts supplier in Switzerland. The movement was serviced using lubricants appropriate to the era. Case-back corrosion was addressed through hand polishing; the remaining pitting was recorded but not treated beyond what was reversible.

Outcome

Completed over four weeks. The watch now runs within ±8 seconds per day on the wrist. The bezel insert is period-appropriate and the owner chose to leave the remaining case-back pitting in place as a record of the watch's history. A restoration folder accompanies the piece.

"I wasn't expecting it to look as good as it does. What matters more is that it runs properly and the documentation is there now." — The owner

The Challenge

A professional dive instructor presented a Seiko Prospex that had failed an informal water resistance check at her dive centre. The watch was used multiple times weekly in the Andaman Sea to depths of 25–30 metres. It had received a general service at a Bangkok shop two years prior but had not been pressure tested since.

Our Approach

Full gasket replacement at crown and case-back was undertaken. Pressure testing identified a failure point at approximately 50 metres — well below the watch's rated 200m — consistent with a deteriorated crown gasket. After replacement, the watch was tested again and passed at the full rated depth. The entire job was completed in five working days.

Outcome

Pressure test passed at 200m. Service ticket issued with the tested depth recorded. Owner advised to return for a pressure test within 18 months given the frequency and depth of use. Watch returned to active use the same week.

"I need to know that ticket is accurate. They're the only workshop here that tests to the actual rating." — The instructor

The Challenge

A yacht owner with a regular Phuket mooring brought in three watches simultaneously — all showing signs of prolonged salt-air exposure. The bracelet end-links on one piece had corroded through; another had pitting on the case-back that was approaching the thread area. All three were valued but worn pieces, not display watches.

Our Approach

Each watch was assessed individually and a separate written report produced for each. The owner was presented with three distinct options and chose different scopes for each — full restoration for the most corroded piece, hand polishing for the second, and gasket replacement only for the third. This was handled as three separate appointments running concurrently over approximately three weeks.

Outcome

All three watches returned within the agreed timeline. The most corroded piece received new bracelet end-links and full case restoration. The owner now brings one or two pieces for preventive servicing every six months before the monsoon season.

"Dealing with three watches at once could have been complicated, but the separate reports made it straightforward to decide what to do with each one." — The owner
